French Roof Tiles

French Roof Tiles come in a variety of tones, as well as a variety of sizes and shapes. Barrel clay tiles (also known, in the US, as Mission roof tiles) are the majority of installations throughout France, although the flat tiles are also popular in the Burgundy region.

We specialize in four areas of France:

Provence Roof Tiles

Provence Tiles tend to shy from the strong reds and lighter peach and salmon colors predominate. The tiles from this region are thick and strong and have a noticeable difference in width from one end to the other. All of these tiles tend to be larger compared to their Italian and Spanish equivalents and average 20″ to 22″ in length and 9″ to 10″ width at one end and 6″ to 7″ at the other.

Bordeaux Roof Tiles

The tiles from Bordeaux share the same color palette with the Provence tiles, however they tend to be thinner and less heavy. Although they share roughly the same lengths (from 18 /1/2″ to 21 1/2″) there is a less marked narrowing – from 6 1/2″ to 7 1/2″ at the wide end to 5 1/2″ to 6 1/2″ at the narrower end and so require more for the same coverage as the Provence.

Perpignan roof Tiles

If you want red then you need tiles from Perpignan and the Languedoc region, check the deepest reds we carry. They are also big tiles and average 20″ to 22″ in length, and are 8″ to 9 1/2″ at the wider end and 6 1/2″ to 7 1/2″ and the narrower end.

BOURGOGNE flat roof Tiles

Traditional of France, particularly in the Bourgogne region, is the Flat “Tuiles Plate” style tile which, like slate tiles, are laid staggered. Dimensions, of course, vary, but average 6” x 10”and they come, as you can see from the photographs, in a striking variety of colors and aging but tend towards stronger reds.

We ensure that all the tiles are reclaimed antique tiles and that we pack and fumigate  in accordance to US customs importation regulations.
